Title: Flag #15_Medium: acrylic on canvas_Size: 63” X 42”

This is one of a series of 50 painting of and about flags. Each work is unique in color and artistic intent. The works are not intended to be political, but perhaps that is not possible given the use of a powerful symbol that is universally recognized. Initially, my intent was to apply color and brush stroke to a static image that is presented as flat. In this case, white, blue and turgouise creating a realistic cartoon. However, no work stand alone but is influenced by the events, time, and place in which it is created.

This is one of a series of 50 painting of and about flags. Each work is unique in color and intent while the image remains mostly unchanged. The works were not intended to make an overt political statement, but rather to explore a broader understanding of the events, places and time in which it was created. In this case; a turquoise field and pinkish stars support the red and white stripes creating a realistic cartoon.

By this point I am well into the series of 50 flags. Each work has been learning experience. The exploration of color and stroke continue. This painting take a decided turn towards looser brush strokes and bolder use of color. The orange/yellow field supports yellow stars and the orange/yellow stripes are intermittent with blotches of blue and white..

This red, white and blue painting recently sold.

All the works on this site are for sale with the exception of this one. The works are not framed, but could be by the purchaser. My reluctance in framing the work is to preserve the painted edges. I definitely would not stretch the works on a stretcher, but would rather float the work in a unobtrusive frame.

When a work in this series is sold and shipped they shipped rolled in a tube. The acrylic and canvas is pliable and ships nice rolled. If being shipped flat is preferred that can be arranged.

Pink is probably my favorite color. In this work I begin drawing back into the painting with a white wax crayon.
